To Build Green Industrial Base of New Manganese and Barium Materials in Chengkou

On 17th July, our reporter has learned from Chengkou County that the associated laboratory of new manganese and barium material is officially put into use. Technically supported by Tsinghua University and American University of Utah and depended on Chengkou resource superiority of explored manganese and barium mines, this laboratory will develop new manganese and barium materials to further promote the fine development of barium hydroxide, barium chloride and other high-purity chemical products. It provides technical support and protection to develop Chengkou as national important green industrial base of new manganese and barium materials.
With abundant mineral resources, national fifth largest manganese ore deposit and Asian first largest barium carbonate ore deposit, Chengkou County is also known as “The Mine Capital of West China”. “But it is unworthy of the name in the past,” Wang Tianju, the deputy county director of Chengkou County, told the reporter. Although there are rich manganese and barium ore resources, the difficulty of refining middle-low grade hollandite from abandoned mine, the serious high-sulfur or hyperphosphate pollution to high grade manganese ore and other problems have always been technique barriers of developing new green hollandite materials.
“Chengkou is an ecological conservation area in the northeast of Chongqing, so its new hollandite materials construction continuously conducts industry transformation and upgrading on the premise of ecological environmental protection,” Wang Tianju said. The establishment of associated laboratory relies on technological innovation and product innovation to let manganese and barium industry of Chengkou get high value-added, effective and oligosaprobic development instead of the past superficial exploitation and to find a new industrialization road.
