    To prepare barium sulfate in steelmaking process is to use potassium chloride or salt as the flux, blend barite powder and potassium chloride or salt at a certain ratio and remove impurities through preheating and steelmaking. Then the obtained meltwater through steelmaking is processed and get paste or powder barium sulfate after water quenching, grinding powder water leaching, purification, cleaning, drying etc. This process is simple and easy to control, which is fit for small and medium-sized enterprises especially township enterprises.     Barium sulfate can be used as raw material or supplement of raw lacquer, ink, plastic, rubber and storage battery; surface coating agent for impression paper and copper round paper; sizing agent for ramie textile industry; clarifying agent for glass products to defoam and add luster. It can also be used as protective material for preventing ray penetration. Besides, it is used in porcelain, enamel, coriander, dyestuff and other industry and acts as the raw material of manufacturing other barium salts. The mixture of barium sulfate, two titanium compound and other dyes, used in plastic and rubber, can reduce the additive amount of dye and save 30% of total cost.

     Barium sulfate (be added as appropriate according to empirical formula) used in polypropylene, can make PP surfacelayer of polypropylene look like ABS and provide high gloss and high hardness surface without affecting the existing characteristics of PP. Barium sulfate can reach 80% of supplement ratio. Once applied to drainage pipe, sound box and sound, it can effectively isolate noise. Powder coating, which contains barium sulfate, has high gloss, good levelling property, weather resistance, chemical stability and other characteristics. Barium sulfate is a raw material for other barium salts. It mobilizes product light resistance, weather resistance, chemical and electric chemical erosion and commodity packaging effect, enhances coating shock resistance when applied in powder coating, raw lacquer, marine primer, arms equipment paint, automotive coating, emulsion paint, interior and exterior architectural coatings. In inorganic industry, barium sulfate is used for producing other barium salts such as barium hydroxide, barium carbonate, barium chloride and so on. Barium sulfate is used in rendering and preparing printer's varnish when produce wood grain printing plate in firewood industry. It is used as green dye and lake to produce physique filler in organic synthesis.
